The reason is that according to the Congress members, the Russian Prime Minister did not receive the President of the Republic of Armenia “properly”
Yesterday the staff meeting of the Armenian National Congress was held to discuss and to summarize the actions before the rally. The meeting lasted quite a long time. In response to “Aravot’s” question whether there were any problems or disagreements, chairman of the Social Democrat Hunchakyan Party (SDHP) Lyudmila Sargsyan said,
– No it is just, because we gathered a little late after visiting Yerablur and Pantheon. Nothing extraordinary – work is just in full swing, as it usually happens on the eve of a rally. Sometimes longer discussions also happen. According to the spread news, rather interesting developments are taking place inside the country – certainly, we discuss, exchange information, make conclusions.
– What developments do you mean?
– Intergovernmental visits, meetings…
– Is Serzh Sargsyan’s visit to Moscow discussed?
– Yes.
– Would you reveal what was at issue and what assessments were made?
– We analyze the meeting procedure and try to understand whether it was generally in line with the format of meetings that took place between the two countries.
– Is it in line?
– I don’t think that it was that good. Some other meetings with Russian Prime Minister Putin were out of the visit’s framework that arouses questions.
– Do you think that it will have an impact on the internal political situation in Armenia?
– I cannot make a clear conclusion yet, but it will have consequences. The fact that Serzh Sargsyan was received out of the visit’s framework and rather late, after waiting for a long time is really offensive. Actually the President of Armenia was not received properly by the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation that cannot help, but have consequences. It is an explicit attitude toward the government, in particular, toward Serzh Sargsyan.
– Will assessments be voiced at the rally today?
– Probably in the speeches. However, I can definitively say that the rally will be interesting.
– Why will it be interesting?
– After eight-day twenty-four-hour rallies , when we demanded Serzh Sargsyan’s immediate resignation and now we fix a rally again – it certainly means that the resignation demand is urgent and we do and will actively work in that direction, we will cooperate with different forces, including NGOs and political forces and will achieve the resignation.
– But it seems the authority did not treat the twenty-for-hour rallies and immediate resignation demand very seriously. I mean what has changed during this period that they will take this demand into account?
– It testifies to the level of the authority’s seriousness and not to the fact that the ANC moves lack seriousness. It testifies to the fact that they don’t know the real political situation and they cannot even imagine what circumstances all of that may have. Our steps and aim are very clear.
– Is it possible that twenty-four-hour rallies will be resumed today?
– Never and nothing can be ruled out?
– Has active work been done among the society? Will the rally be crowded?
– The people will be active at the proper moment and will be actively involved in political processes, because the people are actually the supporters of ANC and do not trust and support the authorities. I urge the people to participate in the upcoming political processes more actively, because those are the conditions that assure the future, prosperity and welfare of our country and all of her citizens.
– During eight-day rallies the ANC leadership were constantly calling for unity. No response was heard in those days, have offers been made in the meantime?
– All the political forces analyze the situation these days and they will make up their mind after clearly realizing it. Therefore, there is no need to hurry. There were forces that applied, I cannot make their names public, but that process will be more active in the short run and all those who really aim at freeing themselves from the rule of bandits and want to struggle for that aim – ANC is the force they will join.
