Ruben Hayrapetyan, “The journalists have violated my rights lots of times”

November 16,2011 17:16

Aravot.am inquired from Ruben Hayrapetyan, the President of the Football Federation of Armenia and a Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) MP, whether he was satisfied with the ruling of the Constitutional Court on the petition of Karen Andreasyan, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, given the fact that Mr. Hayrapetyan is one of the MPs who got a compensation for moral damage from “Haykakan Zhamanak” (Armenian Times). The MP said, “I don’t know about the ruling of the Constitutional Court, but once I examine and find out what it is about, I will tell you. What law is that, the one that they cannot offend people anymore? I will look through the ruling and tell you.”

In response to my question “how do you communicate with the mass media now and if there is false news about you or your words are distorted what will you do?”, Mr. Hayrapetyan said, “It depends on the mass media. I will not file in the court immediately, because people might get false information, I will refer to them to issue a denial. If they don’t issue, I will certainly file in the court, otherwise, they will write what they want. They write we are drug addicts, we sell weapons. At first I always tell them there is such material, please issue a denial. If they don’t issue, what else should we do – we will file in the court.”

Ruben Hayrapetyan assured that the journalists had violated his rights and had distorted his words lots of times, “A journalist interviews me over the phone, I say one thing, he writes another thing. I didn’t a record, he had and kept the parts he needed. He completely confused my words. As if I said ‘when was Karabakh ours that it should be ours now?’, in the meantime I couldn’t have said anything like that.”
