Last Saturday, on November 26 in the framework of “At the Crossroads of Views” program of the Radio Liberty, responding to an opposing question of Arayik Hovhannisyan, a Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) MP, “there have been people who have left the Armenian National Congress, including members of the pre-election headquarters and chiefs of staff, therefore is the situation in ANC so bad?”, Vahan Karapetyan, the Congress member responsible for the external relations, stated, “The people who left had very serious businesses and were connected with the establishment. I suppose business made those people, 2-3 people, leave ANC. The last incident showed that one of those people owned a café that was closed, after the President House ordered to close cafes and not to allow people to go to cafes in those eight days when the 24-hour rallies were organized. I mean, those people were cooperating with the authorities from the beginning.”
It was obvious that Vladimir Karapetyan was particularly hinting at Ararat Zurabyan who left ANC and the Pan-Armenian National Movement (PANM) and who owns a café in the vicinity of the Freedom Square.
Ararat Zurabyan thought it was not worth responding to ANC representatives’ accusations, but in response to our question stated that if the Congress members ventured to approach and enter the café, they would have seen that it was completely ruined inside and there was construction work being done.
The same party representatives also observed that some representatives had the mentioned “serious businesses” long before the formation of ANC, as early as during the 2008 presidential election and afterwards, but the Congress did not deemed it extraordinary, moreover, they were using those “serious businesses”. The “Free Democrats” are generally inclined to say either good things about ANC or nothing, as it is appropriate to do on certain occasions (one says either good things or nothing about the dead).
