As a result of the “Forward Armenia” slogan 105 thousand people have left Armenia – stated Aram Karapetyan, the leader of the New Times Party (NTP), at the sixth convention of the party.
“If anyone thinks that this kind of establishment can be pushed out of politics through negotiations, that man really lives in the ‘H1’ Armenia. If a man thinks so, he is a character of the ‘Anna’ series”, this was the only critical notion of the opposition, voiced by Aram Karapetyan, the leader of the New Times Party, in his speech at the convention yesterday. The rest of critique, the lion’s share of it, was directed at the establishment and in particular at President Serzh Sargsyan, “Serzh Sargsyan smashed his hand down on the table in May and said that ‘I will fire you all, if there is inflation’. Yesterday it was officially published that the inflation rate this year has been 5.6%. Whom has he fired? Smashing his hand, he said ‘if you don’t find all those who are responsible for “March 1”, I will blow you out of the water’. Have they found anyone?” said the NTP leader, adding, “That is why the condition of the current establishment is this – whether he smashes his hand or not, everybody knows that he will smash and then forget.” According to Aram Karapetyan, the absurd of our political life has reached the level that “the day of the election is not fixed, the headquarters are not determined, but the chief of staff and his deputy are already appointed – the man went to sleep, woke up, hand in his resignation that ‘I don’t want that office, I want to be the chief of staff, because being the chief of staff is more important than the second office in the state, provided for by the Constitution’.” He reminds that the orders made by the president in other areas only a few months ago are also suspended, furthermore, everybody was pleased with Alik Sargsyan, the former chief of police, but he was discharged. Considering all this, the spokesman thinks that degradation has reached such a level in Armenia that even inside the government, nobody feels, taking into account his impunity, that there is authority. He thinks it’s needless to mention the public opinion, as “the establishment didn’t care for it much earlier, when it was shooting, beating, holding elections.” However, he thinks that it is novel in Armenia that people in the establishment don’t fear anything, “There always was someone in the establishment, they feared. Now there is no such man. According to the official data, 86.5 thousand people have left Armenia, along with the ‘Forward Armenia’ slogan and according to non-official data 105 thousand.”
Referring to the economic policy pursued by the Republic of Armenia Cabinet, the spokesman called it “stealing economic structure”. He was particularly astonished by the fate of the statements made by Harutyun Arakelyan, the leader of the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party (SDHP), “The man made a speech, published papers and said that Tigran Sargsyan, as the Prime Minister, had pocketed 31 million AMD from privatizing ‘Nairit’. He presented in detail where and how that money went. Tigran Sargsyan certainly applied to the Attorney General, he sent the case to the Chief of Police, this one in turn to the main investigation department, the latter to the investigator of the Kentron community. It is good that the investigator hasn’t sent it to the district police officer. The man directly accuses the Prime Minister of theft and the issue reaches the district police officer.” Then, “The Prime Minister states that 105 billion must be added to the budget revenues. The head of the commission on state revenues is still demanding that ‘tell me where I should get that money’. It is a pre-election year, they do PR. We will not manage to see the 2.5 thousand raise in the budget of the upcoming year, because the inflation will take everything away.” According to him, all this reminds of Caligula when the latter brought his horse and said, “This animal must be in the Senate”, Nero who burnt Rome to be able to write a poem.
Aram Karapetyan himself sees the only way out of this situation for Armenia in becoming a member of the Eurasian Economic Union. The people present at the convention agreed with the political leader and made a decision in that regard. As for solving political problems NTP decided to participate in the upcoming presidential election with their own list, as well as their own candidate in either regular or snap presidential election, “Using the elections as a political moment, cooperating with other political and social forces and active citizens, to remove the establishment and its servants, thinking of exceptionally group interest, from the political stage without reservations.”
