Today Samvel Aleksanyan, a Republic of Armenia National Assembly MP, was elected the president of “Nig-Aparan” patriotic charitable union, during the 5th congress of the union, replacing Haykaz Navasardyan, the principal of Yerevan Physics and Math School. Let us remind that “Nig-Aparan” patriotic union has two presidents emeritus, Aghvan Hovsepyan, the Attorney General of Armenia, and Vrezh Markosyan, the owner of “Tigran Mets” publishing company. Attorney General of Armenia Aghvan Vardanyan observed in his welcoming speech, “We have been criticized a lot, blamed for ostensibly preaching local patriotism. However, I am convinced that everybody has been convinced already that patriotism doesn’t exist just formally, abstractly. It is materialized in the nature of giving importance to one’s house, family, village, native land, devoting oneself to the fatherland, making its prosperity one’s concern.”
According to the president emeritus, these have been the goals of the union’s activities for nine years. “We have been criticized and today they don’t stop criticizing that ‘Nig-Aparan’ fulfills political functions”, observed he, reminding the criticizers that they fulfill “the function of strengthening the Armenian statehood.”
National Assembly members from different factions were present at the congress. Republican Arman Sahakyan and Heritage Party representative Armen Martirosyan were dearly speaking all the time sitting side-by-side. Government functionaries of various ranks were present. Seyran Ohanyan, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, mayor Taron Margaryan, Manuk Vardanyan, the Minister of Transport and Communication, famous businessman Hrant Vardanyan, Vladimir Movsisyan and Derenik Dumanyan were decorated with a Friend of “Nig-Aparan” medal. The Defense Minister observed in his thanking speech, “Being from Karabakh, I am very honored to be a friend of ‘Nig-Aparan’.”
