“’Inter RAO UES’ has nothing to do in our nuclear power plant from now on”, said Armen Movsisyan, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, during a meeting with journalists today, referring to the debts and demands of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP). According to him, the nuclear power plant was given to the Russian “Inter RAO UES” Company as a deposit for paying back $40-50 million, owing to that company as a result of providing nuclear fuel, “Nothing unusual has happened, we make all the payments automatically, therefore, ‘Inter RAO UES’ has nothing to do from now on.” The minister assured that a new agreement on certified management of the Armenian nuclear power plant would not be signed with the Russian “Inter RAO UES” Company. Let us mention that the minister organized a press conference to summarize the year and to present the projects of next year.
As for the completion of the new nuclear power plant building, Armen Movsisyan stated that if everything was done according to the schedule, it would be completed in years 2016-17, “The old power generating unit will stop operating, when the new one starts to operate.”
In response to a question whether price increase was expected, Mr. Minister said that he didn’t have any information on price increase at the moment, “Only time will tell what will happen de facto.”
Speaking of the future projects, Armen Movsisyan said that the national government had decided to use the energy resources ofArmenia, as well as Nagorno-Karabakh as much as possible, “Coal reserves have been discovered in theNagorno-KarabakhRepublic. We have decided to re-operate the old thermal power plant inYerevanwith coal, which will substantially increase the level of energy independence. This is more profitable than gas and will have an economic impact on the system.”
