Tigran Ter-Yesayan has found new evidence on the robbery in 2004

January 09,2012 19:12

Director of “Forum” Center Tigran Ter-Yesayan filed a petition in the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Armenia on December 23, 2011, noting that he had been found a victim in the criminal investigation launched on April 30, 2004, by the Kentron Police Department in regard to the robbery of his apartment by an unknown individual, “The investigation body decided to suspend the case on 30.11.2004 on the grounds of Section 1, Article 1 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia. Considering that I have found out some evidence during this period that are related to the robbery of my apartment and to the people who carried that out, I ask to order the re-launch of suspended 13120404 criminal investigation, as well as to assign the National Security Service (NSS) of the Republic of Armenia to conduct the preliminary investigation as an exception.”

At the request of “Aravot”, making a commentary on why he wanted NNS to conduct the preliminary investigation instead of the police, Tigran Ter-Yesayan said, “There are doubts, concerns, since there are people who were connected to this case in 2004 and they are still in the system now, hold high-ranking offices. Therefore, it is not desirable that this case was under their examination now too.” Let us observe that in 2004, Hovhannes Tamamyan was the Chief of Kentron Police Department. Let us remind that in 2004 Tigran Ter-Yesayan as the President of the International Association of Lawyers was representing not only “A1+”, but also a set of oppositionists in courts. And two months after that robbery carried out in broad daylight, a set of NGOs made a statement noting that the preliminary investigation body showed extraordinary lack of activity in that case, “We don’t rule out that the crime, as well as such an attitude of the preliminary investigation body are related to Tigran Ter-Yesayan’s professional activities and political views.” Tigran Ter-Yesayan himself has avoided any commentaries during that period and now he said, “I have never tried to use my personal problems, problems of my family for other reasons. Just let me mention that the investigation of the criminal case lasted 3-4 months and was carried out with a bad procedure. At least professional ignorance, carelessness is obvious, even if there were no selfish ends.” We tried to find out what new evidence he had found in regard to the robbery of his house and people who had carried that out, about which he had written in the petition, but Tigran Ter-Yesayan said, “I don’t want to catch the ball before the bound. I don’t know whether they will deny or respect my petition, so as another body conducts the preliminary investigation as an exception. However, sooner or later, you will know about that too.”

P.S. By the way, Tigran Ter-Yesayan told an interesting story about Hovhannes Tumanyan, which we will publish tomorrow.
