As we have already mentioned, on Friday, January 13, “Aravot” was in Kajaran, to learn about the argument between the Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine and the residents of the village of Kajaran first hand, to see the situation with our own eyes.
“You are agents. Why have you come? Why didn’t you warn before coming? This is our village you should have warned before coming”, we were hosted in the village of Kajaran in this manner when we unexpectedly entered to see how many people really lived in that village. One of the villagers got so angry that he tried to take away the camera from Gagik Shamshyan and hit him. The reason for anger was obvious – the statement of village headman Rafik Atayan that “one hundred and fifty families live here”, as well as the numbers of other villagers that “well, we are some forty”, “it will be probably thirty or so” did not corresponded to the reality at all. The headman was compelled to call on the phone people who live in the vicinity, but are registered in the village of Kajaran and ask them to come by.
Our visit was a surprise also for Maxim Hakobyan, the director of the Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine. It turned out that the director who had not recovered after a surgery had caught a cold and had a temperature. None the less, he decided to come to the combine and give an interview to “Aravot”, presenting his viewpoint, his position.
