The Minister of Foreign Affairs denies that our ambassadors abroad are doing businesses and don’t come back

January 16,2012 16:28

Hovhannes Hohhannisyan, the former head of the National Assembly commission for external relations, a member of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) and the leader of the Liberal Party of Armenia, said to “Yerevak” journal that our ambassadors were idle, that we had not ambassadors of political importance, but ambassadors of staff policy, we had ambassadors that had been appointed more than 10 years before and had not come to Yerevan. According to him, those ambassadors are not called back, since they have good relationship with the ruling regime.

Today Aravot.am inquired from Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Edward Nalbandian, during a conversation with him whether our ambassadors got instructions and whether he would recall any instruction given to our ambassadors. In the minister’s words, “Such statements are ridiculous, instructions and documents circulating among the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the president’s staff and embassies were 160 thousand in 2011 only.” In response to our observation that the US called back her ambassadors after three years and our ambassadors took care of personal issues, established businesses abroad and did not come back, the minister assured that it did not correspond to the reality, “Look at the lists and see who is where and for how long. All our ambassadors have changed recently and those ambassadors that we think work efficiently may remain, according to the decision of the president.”
