Ruben Hakhverdyan, “Mashtots wouldn’t like to get to know Pugacheva” (video)

January 18,2012 16:07

Today famous artists Ruben Hakhverdyan and Sergey Danielyan met with journalists at “Hayeli” (mirror) club. “You have called two half-crazy people and you think you have done a good thing”, said Ruben Hakhverdyan, as soon as he entered the room and sprayed perfume on himself for show.

In response to a question what position an artist should have in the context of present political activity, the singer-composer said, “A sociologist should be brought here, in order that we find out home many people have left this place to save their souls, how many corpses are brought from Russia and for what reason, certainly, it is xenophobia, one should invite an ecologist, because of whom people also leave the country… for example, the story about Teghut… Such people are needed to have a picture what goes on in this country. Armenia is like Russians’ shooting range, they have planted their guns here and love us very much and you know what people do after loving, in this instance our sworn friends.”

Talking about general degradation and the lowering of the level in every sphere, Hakhverdyan spoke of cultural policy, state awards and bad statues. In response to “Aravot’s” question whom he would like to be the Minister of Culture, Ruben Hakhverdyan said, “Me.” What his first step would be. “I would collect all medals and titles and…” answered the artist. “Ridiculous things happen, they bestow titles, medals, e.g. ‘Mesrop Mashtots’, to Alla Pugacheva, whereas Mesrop Mashtots is canonized and Alla Pugacheva is not only a lousy singer, the founder of pop music, but also is not morally stable… I am sorry, but Mesrop Mashtots shouldn’t have grabbed her breast, because if Mashtots had seen her, he wouldn’t have had any wish to get to know her… I recalled another thing, William Saroyan Statue that is also a lousy one… it seems that he has come to his own grave… Despite the fact that his grave is in Fresno, his heart is here… I would also like to leave one of my organs in my motherland… Someone, hearing that, said ‘what shameless man you are’, I asked ‘what do you mean?’ that woman had a one-track mind… And it (Saroyan Statue – G.H.) was erected in a stupid spot, in front of the house of a brilliant architect like Kochar… Kochar is even a bigger phenomenon than Saryan…”

Ruben Hakhverdyan urged not to vote for any of the three presidents and observed that he expected change. According to his definition, a revolution was needed, and a new, fresh-minded politician.

As for supporting Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) member Vahan Hovhannisyan at the time, “Vahan is smarter, than the three presidents combined… If I ever join a party, I will be a member of the Green Party, an environmentalist.”
