“Useful” criminals

January 19,2012 13:02

Yesterday Ashot Avetisyan, aka Hamo of  Bangladesh, was arrested. That man has a rich criminal biography. On April 5, 2004, he threw eggs at Artashes Geghamyan, the leader of the National Unity Party, during the National Unity rally and when journalists tried to film that, he broke their photo and video cameras, harassing them.

On February 4, 2005, Avetisyan actively participated in the “Tetsi krug (thermal power plant circle) battle” between two criminal groups that took human lives and during which different kinds of weapons, including automatic weapons, were used. In both cases, Hamo received formal punishments.

In 2010, he ran a citizen over onTigran Mets Avenueand escaped. Although that citizen died, Avetisyan paid only a fine for that.

These are only those fragments of that glorious biography that we know. A citizen having such a bunch of crimes, if he had been a less significant figure, than Hamo of  Bangladesh was, would have been sentenced to life imprisonment. However, Hamo of Bangladesh has probably given a meritorious service to the Motherland, which was particularly demonstrated in throwing eggs at the opposition figure of that time. Considering all that, he not only enjoyed his freedom, but also managed “Neptune” swimming pool in his nativeBangladesh. This time an ordinary VAZ-2107 ventured to run into his BMW X6. Certainly, Hamo, not being punished for at least three crimes, should have been convinced that nothing threatens him this time either, therefore, he assaulted the driver of VAZ-2107 and beat him up and when police officers tried to take him to the police station, he did not yield to the law-enforcement officers.

I guess this time Hamo of  Bangladesh will not be seriously punished either, the reason is obvious – the parliamentary election is expected in the short-run and people like Hamo are necessary for the establishment parties and candidates to guarantee their victory as much as the air they breathe. If they isolate all criminal elements from the society, who will break into the electoral districts, stuff ballots and harass opposition representatives? That is the very reason why “ballsy guys” like Hamo of Bangladesh, who will loyally serve their masters with their fists and muscles, are necessary.

Therefore, nothing threatens the criminal who proved himself in such matters previously. The governor of Syunik is a good example.
