Turkologist Ruben Melkonyan, the vice dean of the Oriental Studies Faculty, Yerevan State University, thinks that Turkey has become the prisoner of its own principles, “The denial of the Armenian Genocide that is one of important articles of the Turkish foreign policy puts Turkey itself in a position of prisoner today and Turkey employs huge political, administrative and financial resources, in order that it prevents such bills (he means the bill passed by the French Senate banning the denial of the Armenian Genocide – M.B.), such statements before every April 24 and this has become a big concern for the Turkish propaganda machine, the Turkish political machine has become the prisoner and victim of its own principle and certain part of the Turkish society has already started to understand that.” Besides that, according to the turkologist, “Turkey has contributed to the propaganda of the Armenian Genocide by its aggressive attitude and the international press and community heard more about the Armenian Genocide, as a result of Turkey’s hysterical attitude. CNN, BBC and other international mass media referred to that issue, using “The Armenian Genocide” term in their reports, made historical references and analyses. We can clearly say that Turkey’s propaganda worked against itself by these steps.”
