“Cop,” “Ashtray,” “Punch”

February 04,2012 11:42

After journalist Hayk Gevorgyan’s arrest, Facebook exploded and everybody was talking about framing Hayk up and the most commonly used words after Hayk were “cop” and “ashtray” qualitative nicknames.

Naturally, all interested found and read the articles of Hayk previously published, which, according to the belief of many, were the reason for framing and locking Hayk up.

I also read and let me quote an excerpt from it, which quotes Vova Gasparyan’s words, “…I don’t think that a nick name can stick to me, no one can give me a nickname, I am not a nickname man…”

I don’t know about Vova Gasparyan, but thanks to him the police have become nicknamed and people don’t write “policemen” anymore, they write “cops,” “ashtrays,” while talking about the police. Congratulations, the mission of the police to destruct itself from within and to increase social distrust of that institution has been a success. Condolences, all the same.

Now about the “punch.” The court is to exercise court supervision over police actions and that is, why the court makes the decision to arrest a person. Court supervision implies exact substantial actions and not formal punching in the form of suspending applied motions.

This issue is not discussed on social networks yet, however the fact that Hayk Gevorgyan is arrested means that the court has made a decision of arrest. I don’t know which judge has made such a decision, but I think that the statement of the Minister of Justice to decrease distrust of the courts from existing 70-80% to 20% in the short-run goes in quite an opposite direction and the distrust has surely increased since that statement, as a result of the decisions made by courts.

P.S. I think the Armenian National Congress (ANC) should erect a statue of Vova Gasparyan, since the police has given a topic for the upcoming rallies, as it gave topics by instituting criminal proceedings against Nikol Pashinyan who pasted leaflets to inform about rallies or closing toilets around the Freedom Square.
