During a discussion that took place the other day, Azat Vartanian (Montreal, Canada), the president of the International Informatization Academy, talking about the bill banning the denial of genocides passed by the French Senate, stated, “We saw two things: how Turkey as a state strived, in order that the bill did not enter the Senate and was not passed by the Senate and how Armenia didn’t do anything at that stage. Yes, they appreciated in the end, expressed gratitude, but the voice of the Republic of Armenia couldn’t be heard before passing. There is a big war under way in the field of information, but we fall back. We speak of what Turkey has done, the Senate has done, but a few days ago the Pakistani Senate recognized the ‘genocide’ of Khojalu. Did anyone, any Armenian official do anything against that decision? This is a decision against the Republic of Armenia, did Armenia do anything against it? I haven’t heard. Many people do not even know that there was such a thing.”

By the way, Azerbaijani sources also claim that the Mexican Senate has also made such a decision. We applied to Tigran Balayan, the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, in this regard. What has the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia done to prevent those anti-Armenian decisions? Mr. Balayan reminded first that Pakistan, as well as Saudi Arabia, was the country that had not recognized even the Republic of Armenia, our independence so far. As for the steps taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding anti-Armenian actions in general, Mr. Balayan preferred not to make those public, “Diplomacy is the field where the majority of steps and actions are not to be made public.”
We observed out of the context that there was considerable amount of controversial information about Azat Vartanian on the internet. In some places he is glorified as a person who has greatly contributed to developing relations between Armenia and Canada, as a businessman and an intellectual who has greatly facilitated Armenian-Canadian economic ties and on some websites, including Russian websites, he is represented as an international swindler and even accused of other crimes. Aravot also wrote about that.
