Famous singer and composer Ruben Hakhverdyan who has always supported the Teghut activists’ movement stated at Hayeli (mirror) Club today that the protests in Mashtots Park had nothing to do with nature protection. “I also see some biased attitude in that. If they struggle, let them struggle against vulgar Narekism, which was drawn up behind Republic Square, where there is no place to walk, a building is drawn up on a building, water flows under one, the foreman said… they took away such a huge territory, where no flower can have a scent,” said the art worker, singing his famous song.
He noted that he believed Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan and was convinced that two years from now the set of booths would disappear from Mashtots Park, once the Old Yerevan project was realized, “Therefore, I think those protests are much ado about nothing… That territory was turned into a garbage can; the environmentalists had better clean that territory… I remember that our prime minister cleaned the Zangu River bank, where there was also garbage. Since we have seen few good things from the government so far, there is no trust; people suspect that they may erect an Eiffel Tower there. I trust Taron, he is his father’s son, moreover, let’s keep in mind his neighborhood, Avan.”
Ruben Hakhverdyan is generally against tall buildings, “I wouldn’t like to see buildings taller than a 5-storey building. Yerevan was supposed to be a city with a population of 500 000 people, such as Paris with its suburbs, Tamanyan drew it up like that and this Narkism is a disgrace… Unfortunately, due to the authorities the city culture disappeared and the intellectual layer left and now the youth are our only hope. However, they should consider issues from the global perspective; the establishment should resign and say that they cannot do it anymore.”
