Soon TV channels will have to publish what tariffs they will fix for political advertisement at the pre-election campaign in the run-up for the upcoming parliamentary election. As we know, at every election, regardless of assurances of TV companies that they have fixed rational prices, broadcasting prices arouse displeasure of a set of political forces and MP candidates.
Yesterday www.aravot.am inquired from a few TV companies whether they had already decided on the price for one minute and whether it was really within the limits of rationality. Davit Hakobyan, the director of the Yerkir Media TV channel informed that they had already decided on tariffs, “The prices for one minute will not differ from the prices that are fixed for commercials, they will be around 30-35 thousand AMD. We will not set time limits either. We will exercise our rights provided for by the law, we will not discriminate, we accept other advertisements. So the political advertisement will be in the same way and for the same tariff.” In response to our observation that tariffs of ordinary commercials had differed from those of political advertisements every year, Mr. Hakobyan said, “I don’t know about what has been every year, but I tell you what is decided this year.”
Mnatsakan Harutyunyan, the director of the Hrazdan TV company said, “The final price is not decided on yet, we will make a decision in the upcoming days. I can say that we will fix medium prices. We fixed 8000 AMD for one minute during the local elections, probably we will fix as much in this case.” Mr. Harutyunyan informed that the price for one minute of commercials on their TV channel was almost the same. Vahagn Khachatryan, the director of the ATV TV company, said that they hadn’t decided on tariffs yet, “We cannot make them public yet, but it will not largely differ from commercial prices, there will be medium prices, as the law provides for.”
