“The Secretary of the National Security Service (NSS) Called the Head of an Institution That Is Under His Supervision and Said ‘We Didn’t Allow You to Steal, So That You Would Not Support Us Now, Did We?’” Vigen Khachatryan Says

Political analyst Vigen Khachatryan left the political stage 8 years ago and has no intention to come back. However, he thinks it is necessary for him to point out a few problems, which we don’t talk much about today, but their negative impact is visible. In this regard Mr. Khachatryan noted, “The first big issue of Armenia is stealing – they still at every turn. And the society doesn’t care for any ideology and authority, since it has lost its faith.” Mr. Khachatryan continued with annoyance, “How can citizen have faith, when the NSS secretary can allow himself to call the head of an institution that is under his supervision and say, ‘We didn’t allow you to steal, so that you wouldn’t support us now, did we?’ Or obvious hooligans sit in the parliament and are not punished. The vulgarity rules in the government. I don’t believe those justifications that people leave Armenia for earning their living. People who leave Armenia for earning their living come back. People leave Armenia never to come back, since they feel insecure. They can set basically anyone up these days.”

While speaking of proportional and majoritarian representation, Mr. Khachatryan noted, “Parties make clean lists, since it is not in their interest to bring a hooligan to the parliament. The majoritarian representation, on the other hand, is for bringing such people to the parliament. In order that parties can justify themselves in front of such people that they have offered them the opportunity to appear in the parliament.”

As for the upcoming parliamentary election, V. Khachatryan said, “There will be no classic election, the election results will be determined in advance.”
