The 7th congress of the Heritage Party adopted the New Armenia Resolution, in which it decided “to call on national-democratic forces and the whole civil society to take bold and joint steps in direction of tangible unity, using all possible means, beginning with election and ending with public unity. To welcome the prospective cooperation of the Heritage Party with its civil and political partners and to encourage realizing real consent based on assessments and solutions of this resolution. To empower the head of the committee to convene a regular congress after the parliamentary election to form the governing bodies and for other urgent purposes.” Thus, neither in the speeches, nor in the resolution did the Heritage Party talk about the possible format of that party’s participation in the upcoming parliamentary election, let alone about the issue of forming a possible alliance with some political force.
During a conversation with www.aravot.am, responding to a question why as opposed to the expectations of many people, the party had not clarified the format of its participation in the election, Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovhannisian said that this issue would be decided at the meeting of the council on March 18.
In response to a question whether it was possible that he would participate in the election through majoritarian representation, Raffi Hovhannisian said, “I assure you there has been no discussion in the party on our participation through either proportional or majoritarian representation so far. We are entering that stage now and the council will make a decision.” Nonetheless, we tried to insist, considering speculations, according to which Raffi Hovhannisian could be nominated for the election in Talin, one of the electoral districts of Aragatsotn, where he was also nominated in 2007. What intentions does he have? “I am ready to fulfill anything that the council will decide. I am even ready for struggle and participation under the most unequal conditions. However, the council should determine my place and role,” stated the Heritage Party leader.
