He Won a Victory Over Serzh and Sashik Sargsyans and Took Offense at Levon Ter-Petrossian (Video)

Why it was so that the Armenian National Congress made a statement a month ago, January 30, on the fact that 18 allied parties would participate in the parliamentary election, “making it a stage for generating national anger against the regime, for civil uprising, for joining political will, impeaching Serzh Sargsyan” and all 18 parties, members of the ANC, agreed to that. And now when the list is at issue, controversies have arisen. Isn’t there a problem with taking the desired place on the list? Samvel Harutyunyan, the representative of the Armenian Volunteers’ Union, said in response to such questions of journalists, “Journalists know me. I competed with Serzh and Sashik Sargsyans in 37 electoral districts 5 years ago. You know what a struggle it was, how I managed to raise the people and they could maintain and register record results – 13 606 votes – only in 25 out of 76 electoral districts. Everybody knows that I won more than 80 percent of votes – over 21 thousand – in that struggle. I have nominated myself four times for the majoritarian representation. Not only I, but also my friends Vagharshak Harutyunyan, Garnik Margaryan and Sos Gimishyan did not express aspirations to be included in that list. I assure you there is only a problem with organizing principle here.”

Although Samvel Harutyunyan respects the first president, but he felt offended, when he was informed that he first president should make the ANC list by himself. He says that considering the issue of the ANC unity, they have made compromises very often and if the first president whispered in the ear of the Pan-Armenian National Movement (PANM), they would make compromises too.

Talking about the rally on March 1, the spokesperson informed that he had prepared the draft statement, by which it should have been reasserted at the rally that from 4 pm, March 9, Freedom Square would have become once again “a moral oasis and an epicenter of spiritual impulse, should have prepared the desired victory with strong decisiveness and should have achieved the resignation of Serzh Sargsyan who was drunk with the blood of March 1 as soon as possible, the formation of a government of national unity and holding snap presidential and National Assembly elections that would have been exemplary. We should have gone on hunger strike.” The draft was not adopted, which made Samvel Harutyunyan even more offended, which in turn contributed to his making a decision to suspend his membership to the ANC political council, since he cannot imagine how they will jointly discuss issues and find solutions given these controversies. The Armenian Volunteers’ Union will participate only in the “decisive actions” of the national movement.
