“As a result of the heated discussions in recent months, 13 out of 18 forces, members of the ANC, had reached an agreement, but were compelled to state that the Pan-Armenian National Movement (PANM) and 2-3 forces supporting it had upset the wish of the overwhelming majority to reach a consensus,” Samvel Harutyunyan, the coordinator of the Armenian Volunteers’ Union, stated during a press conference today. www.aravot.am inquired from Mr. Harutyunyan whether he meant that 13 parties, members of the ANC, had agreed to do whatever it takes, in order that the parliamentary election on May 6 would become a presidential election, however the PANM, the Liberal Party of Armenia (LPA), the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party (SDHP) and the Alternative initiative had been against it, whether they wanted to get seats and enter the parliament. Samvel Harutyunyan clarified, 13 parties accepted the call entitled Fists Are the Rescue of Armenia as a basis. Yes, in my opinion, as well as in the opinion of a set of my friends from the political council, in the case of generating the anger among the society members to the highest extent, it is possible to hold a snap presidential election and a regular parliamentary election on May 6.” As for getting seats, “Ask them. Anyway, they didn’t accept our offer and they go for a parliamentary election, thinking, as it was said at the latest rally, it as a first stage of the presidential election. Serzh Sargsyan thinks roughly the same. He says the same thing, which is unacceptable for me.” Samvel Harutyunyan also noted with pity that the rating of the first president and the ANC had declined in recent years.
