Judge Gagik Khandanyan of the trial court of Kentron and Nork Marash administrative districts, has just made public a ruling denying the demand of 18-million-AMD compensation from the Hraparak newspaper made by counselor Artur Grigoryan, a member of the Bar of the Republic of Armenia, for defaming his honor, dignity and business reputation, as a result of offense and libel.
The judge, examining the evidence submitted by the petitioner, parties of the trial and the case materials, ruled that the petition was groundless.
The court also referred to the European Convention on Human Rights and the decision made by the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia. The counselor will be compelled to pay 360 000 AMD to the government of the Republic of Armenia as a tax. In response to a question of www.aravot.am, “Did you expect such a ruling?” counselor Artur Grigoryan said, “I expected everything.” And in response to a question whether he would appeal the decision, he said, “Certainly, I will.”
Armine Ohanyan, the editor-in-chief of the Hraparak newspaper said that she had trusted the evidence they had submitted and had been optimistic.
