“The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Fight to Be No. 1 Representative of Russia” (Video)

March 12,2012 16:10

“It doesn’t matter who leads the RPA list – the president or someone else. Election fraud will not diminish by that. There is no such political and moral atmosphere in Armenia that will make one who doesn’t lead the list avoid giving orders to his inferiors about which political force they should work for. It is obvious that the whole political pyramid, the whole leverage will work for the RPA.” Khachatur Kokobelyan, the leader of the Free Democrats Party proposed to the other forces to fight against the RPA election fraud jointly during hearings at the Union of Political Scientists today. According to him, since the opposition doesn’t have large resources, they should unite and nominate a common candidate for the majoritarian representation in order to win.

Noting that the president of the Union of Political Scientists had a specific liking for the PAP, Khachatur Kokobelyan assured, however, that the RPA and the PAP fought for seats, “Have you ever seen a serious RPA or PAP figure debating on the development of Armenia? I have seen them debating on how many seats one will get and how many the other, who will be nominated in which polling station, whether they defend the given candidate or not. I haven’t seen them being interested in bringing professionals to their camp. Every coalition force is busy with – I don’t want to use offensive language – let’s say, its PR. The Prosperous Armenia Party wants to show that it is no. 1 representative of Russia, the Republican Party wants to show that ‘no, sorry, but you are not, I am Russia’s representative.’ Another one wants to show that it is the representative of France and some other one that it is the representative of the West. What is this – Armenian functionaries try to find the advantages of their positions in other states and get sponsorship from there? That servility, that provinciality and cave mentality must be eliminated.”

In response to an observation of www.aravot.am that the Free Democrats were perceived connected to American forces, Mr. Kokobelyan said, “Who connects us? You? Democracy and freedom were promoted in Europe, in the West, but people connect the Western system of values only to America without realizing that Europe is also at issue here. Here we are dealing with a social layer that tries to upset or distort any system of values.”
