“Why did I resign the office at the time and why am I nominated as a candidate now? First of all, the atmosphere that was created did not offer an opportunity to develop the intended projects and generally it wouldn’t have been possible to work. And today an opportunity is offered to appear in the National Assembly with teammates and do what we wish to – to contribute to Armenia’s competitiveness,” Khachatur Sukiasyan nominated for no. 10 electoral district made such a comment during a press conference held today. He has taken into account that there is no election in the future and he cannot do anything alone, “And that opportunity has already been offered today, I have understood that the counterbalance to the establishment is the Armenian National Congress (ANC).”
In response to a question of www.aravot.am what he thought about the chances of his rival Garegin Nushikyan nominated in the same electoral district and whether he didn’t think that we would see different results, as we had in the Hrazdan election, Mr. Sukiasyan said that election fraud was not possible in the center of Yerevan, “More mature people live in Yerevan and I think that given the experienced team I have got, I absolutely don’t think that such actions or illegalities will be possible, I rule those out and if there are some, we will be informed. As for the chances of my rival, we don’t have an institution of image-makers yet, but the time will come and the respective institutions will be able to make their assessment on who has what chances. I wish good luck to every nominated candidate for MP.”
In response to a question whether he wasn’t worried that Nushikyan could use his connections – he was known for being related to the Attorney General – Mr. Sukiasyan said, “Only one issue concerns me – the Attorney General has no right to be engaged in politics, nor has Nig Aparan.”

Khachatur Sukiasyan noted that he was non-partisan, a member of the ANC and was not going to disrupt friendly connections with people who are in other parties, “The connections with those people have remained, I respect them, I will work with them, regardless of their party membership.”
In response to a question whether he intended to support the ANC financially as he did in 2008, Mr. Sukiasyan denied that he had ever supported the ANC, “I am an economic-political figure who should support not financially, but with the potential I have got. My supporters have to support also not financially. I don’t like it that I am perceived as a financial supporter. I was a member of that movement as K. Sukiasyan.”
Mr. Sukiasyan has left the issue of making the ANC list to Levon Ter-Petrossian – he will decide as the leader. As for the parties that might appear in the future parliament, according to Mr. Sukiasyan’s prediction, those will be the ANC, the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF), “There might be some changes in the inner-parliamentary forces and 1 or 2 may not appear.”
