Yerevan Press Club has summarized the results of a monitoring carried out in the period from November 16 through December 15, 2011. The research conducted in 6 TV companies showed that only Shoghakat TV company registered 0% report on political forces and the other 5 TV companies – H1, Shant, Armenia, Yerkir Media, Kentron and H2 – registered assessments on political forces.
Today Boris Navasardyan, the head of Yerevan Press Club, said, while presenting the results of the monitoring to journalists at Urbat Club, that there was not a big difference between the parliamentary election of 2006 and that of this year, “The same problems and events that were in 2006 are there in this election too.” Mr. Navasardyan said that the lack of legal regulation during the pre-election campaign gave rise to certain problems and some political forces seizing that opportunity not only organized various events before the election, but also showed sometimes disguised advertisements, “We know quite well that the official pre-election period is 4 weeks, but parties start their political struggle much earlier. There is another problem; there are a lot of assessments on air.”
According to him, during reports on 6 TV channels examined, 10% of the reports contained assessments and the Republican Party has advantage on all channels. The object of the monitoring, the National Democratic Alliance, was not reported much by the mass media – 0% report.
