The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Violates the Electoral Legislation

March 15,2012 12:58

The RPA has opened 7 pre-election headquarters in the town of Ijevan with a population of around 20 thousand people. They are as many as the electoral districts in the town. Pre-election headquarters are opened in the premises of the Ijevan subsidiary of  Yerevan State University (YSU), in the building of Ijevan Arts School and elsewhere. Article 20 of the Electoral Code forbids putting up posters in the buildings occupied by state and community institutions.

According to our information, that part of the building occupied by the Arts Faculty of the YSU Ijevan subsidiary (where the pre-election headquarters is located) is a private property, however, the law provides for the buildings occupied and not owned and in this instance the building is occupied by a subsidiary of a state university.

Ijevan Arts School (also the RPA pre-election headquarters opened there) is located in the building that belongs to the community.

Let us add that the manager of the Ijevan regional office of the RPA is the director of the YSU Ijevan subsidiary. The Applied Arts Faculty is around 100m away from the regional administration building of Tavush. The manager of the regional office of the RPA is the longest-living governor of Armenia Armen Ghularyan.
