There Is a Public Demand for the Unity of the Free Democrats Party and the Heritage Party

March 16,2012 15:27

Khachatur Kokobelyan, the leader of the Free Democrats Party, talked also about the party’s participation in the upcoming election in his speech addressing the party’s congress, saying that participating and winning in that election was the best and normal way of achieving realization of the party’s ideas. “The Free Democrats Party, as a free-thinking and democratic force, thinks that the way of participating in forming the government of the Republic of Armenia through an election is the most preferable and only way of forming legitimate government. That is the reason why we are preparing for the May 6 National Assembly election with all due care. The Free Democrats Party will participate in the upcoming election as a competitive and free-thinking force adherent to democratic ideas. At the same time, as we have stated lots of times, we are ready to act along with other political forces that pursue the same ideological goals. Certainly, the most expected topic for both you and the public is our relations with the Heritage Party. In that context, we would like to form a fair unity, an alliance, with the Heritage Party, the public demand for which is already there, in our opinion. An alliance that will be democratic and based on equal rights and that will be above any party interest or definitions. We have to show political will and we have that will, courage, in order to shake hands with each other like brothers, commencing by that formation of a whole new political culture. We think that the Heritage Party is the very force that is honest about its goals and its activities are in line with dictates of time. It is a force that really understands international processes and necessity for responding to those. Therefore, the unity, prospective and long-term activities of our two political forces can really achieve not formal, but essential changes in the country and those changes are unavoidable.”

Kokobelyan concluded his speech with thanking his fellow party members, saying, “We will win a victory tomorrow for the sake of realizing our ideas, our goals and for the sake of living prosperously and respectably in our country.”
