Henry Renault, the French Ambassador to Armenia, talking about francophone events during a press conference at the embassy, mentioned also propaganda of the French language through the embassy and by support of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Armenia – the propaganda will be also in the form of increasing the hours of intensive courses in French from 3 to 6 in 10 comprehensive schools. “Armenia applied to the International Organization of Francophonie to sign a linguistic agreement,” emphasized Mr. Renault. The ambassador also talked about the importance of the French lyceum to be established in Armenia in the short run, saying, “It is a project that we, as an embassy, have been seriously working on with the Ministry of Education and Culture.”
In response to a question when it would operate, the diplomat said, “We are talking about a project that should be convincing, since it is for children… We work on the following basis ‘go fast, but don’t rush,’” added the ambassador, but didn’t mention any particular date. He also said that he had had another meeting with the Minister of Education and Culture about the same topic recently.
