Today, during a conversation with www.aravot.am, Eduard Sharmazanov, the press secretary of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, in response to our observation that he had said that the list would be freshened, there would be many changes, but it turned out that their list was the most predictable, said, “Who says that? How many names do you want me to point out? Samvel Farmanyan is a new name, Levon Martirosyan, Edgar Hovhannisyan, Naira Karapetyan. The RPA is a conservative party that doesn’t make autotelic changes. We make deliberate changes. And our Republican Party doesn’t think that the National Assembly is an army to recruit everyone at the age of 18. The success of the Republican Party is caused by the fact that it is a fist of old and young people.”
In response to our question whether the lists of the Heritage Party, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) and other parties were expectable for them, he said, “Every political party decides itself what list it puts forward to the society, the society is the judge. It is secondary whether it was expectable for me or not.”
Mr. Sharmazanov noted that ARF faction secretary Artush Shahbazyan had said the right thing about the Heritage Party list that in regard to the Armenian-Turkish protocols there had been people on that list who had had absolutely different opinions. During a conversation with us, Mr. Sharmazanov noted, “Eduard Sharmazanov has no right to interfere in the internal issues of the Heritage Party or with whom the Heritage Party will cooperate, it is the business of the Heritage Party and the Free Democrats. The matter is the ideological field that politician Raffi Hovhannisyan himself criticized the protocols day and night, but there are people on that list, namely the Free Democrats, who supported those. And the position of their party is not clear for me, as a citizen. When, God willing, they pass the 5% margin, they will state it themselves.”
We also inquired from Mr. Sharmazanov whether he had seen Suren Khachatryan’s Marriott video, where it was clearly seen how he punched the businesswoman. Sharmazanov said that he hadn’t seen, adding, “I don’t say that he hasn’t hit, I just say that I haven’t seen.”
