In response to our question who he had handed his place over, who had been the man that had been worthier, in his words, he said, “I didn’t have a place to hand it over. The place is not privatized. Everyone says ‘I have handed my place over to this one or that one.’ I said I didn’t want, the rest is theirs to decide.”
According to Mr. Khachatryan, he remains being one of the main figures in the ANC and it was not necessary for him to be a candidate for MP, “It is quite an ordinary situation of struggle. I just thought I should leave this fuss, in order that the atmosphere might clear up a bit.” We inquired whether the ANC list had been thus drawn up in a bad atmosphere, as a result of controversies and heated struggle, “I don’t think so,” assured Mr. Khachatryan adding that “there were debates, principles, every party had its say… but it was decided to entrust Levon Ter-Petrossian with the task and it was done so. Afterwards, I think, nothing special has happened.” Felix Khachatryan thinks that it is too rough to say that Levon Ter-Petrossian has drawn the list by himself, “Everyone said that they entrusted Levon Ter-Petrossian with the task of drawing up the list. I had said before drawing up the list that I didn’t wish to be on the list and I don’t know the latest details. When I saw parties, NGOs, some complaints and stuff, I said to myself it was not the end of the world, I had better not be on the list and you take your time thinking.”
Davit Shahnazaryan, a member of the central office of the ANC, did not wish to comment why he was not on the list. He promised to make a comment on reasons later.
