The Rule of Law Party (RLP) Has Been the Most Passive in Terms of Financing Science (Video)

March 30,2012 17:20

During a conversation with www.aravot.am, Kachik Gevorgyan, the president of the Armenian Association for Academic Partnership and Support (ARMACAD) and a member of the initiative We Demand to Finance Science More, stated, “There has been no increase in financing the field of science for the past ten years. The ruling bodies of our country have never attached importance to science.” The movement We Demand to Finance Science More commenced around a year ago on Facebook, www.aravot.am inquired which of the political forces had been the most passive, “Only the RLP hasn’t expressed its opinion in this regard and only this party doesn’t mention exact numbers in terms of financing science in its program.” We reminded K. Gevorgyan the experience of previous years, when a big mass of young scientists had stood by the ruling party’s side and inquired which political force they were going to endorse, given the bad experience. He assured that there was no society of politically determined young scientists and everyone would vote, according to his conscience and knowledge. And he himself hasn’t made up his mind what force to vote for yet.

An idea is often expressed that a youth engaged in science doesn’t have time to comment on Facebook and young scientists that show social activism are those who want to get their personal problems solved. K. Gevorgyan responded as follows, “Yes, the young scientist doesn’t have time to be engaged in social activism. However, one should understand that if Armenia doesn’t have time to protect the rights of the young scientist, the scientists themselves should do that.”
