Parties Hand out Easter Eggs

April 05,2012 16:11

“TV channels showed all day long, as a commercial, how they handed out 1000-2000-AMD-worth eyeglasses and jams. Yesterday I heard that they had handed out eggs for Easter. It is obvious for us that they are things that have nothing to do with charity and it is very disgusting,” Armen Martirosyan, a Heritage Party MP, said during a conversation with www.aravot.am today. According to him, such charity is done by all coalition parties, violating the law. In response to our observation that they said that they had always done charity, at this stage it just coincided with the election and they were criticized, Mr. Martirosyan said, “Then they should dissolve and become charitable organizations – then, they can do as much charity as they like. And we will be grateful to them; I would even call on the president of the country to grant them medals. However, we are all earthly people and it is very obvious for us what it is for.”

In response to our question whether the Heritage Party was not engaged in charity at all, Mr. Martirosyan assured that no. “We don’t do that, because a party is not a charitable organization, it is a political body that has the right to perform only one function – political activities. Individual members of the Heritage Party do charity, but you have never heard and will not

hear about that, because, as the Bible reads, let not your left hand know what your right hand does. We do charity in that manner.”
