Every time the Heritage Party shows goodwill toward the Armenian National Congress (ANC), therefore, www.aravot.am inquired from Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovhannisyan whether he wasn’t afraid that it would be perceived as feebleness or weakness. Particularly, given the fact that Styopa Safaryan competed with Ruben Hayrapetyan, Aram Manukyan with Zaruhi Postanjyan and the Heritage Party members called for making a chivalrous gesture, whether that didn’t imply that the Heritage Party was not sure of its abilities, that was why it attempted to cooperate, he said that no, “I don’t think. Everyone explains it differently. The Armenian traditional mentality is more inclined to men’s machoism, but I think that the overwhelming majority of our people will see that every goodwill, smile, treating the critic impartially, forgiving is probably a manifestation of power and not the other way around. Our people will see the new definition of power during that election. The name of the new definition of power is the Heritage Party. That force knows how to make gestures, show goodwill, respect people, accept even an opposite opinion, thank for criticism. We are coming to give the people what belongs to them, not that jam, fertilizer, medical treatment – it is the right of our citizen. That is the reason why we say that we can do anything and first of all we can change self-confidence and faith of our people.”
As for the failure of negotiations with the ANC to endorse joint candidates for the majoritarian representation, Raffi Hovhannisyan still hopes that “although late, we will reach mutual solutions before the election, according to which we will have one opposition candidate in each electoral district whether he is from the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF), the ANC, the Heritage Party or alternative civil nomination. If it is not the case, we will move on, let the worthiest win and we will congratulate the worthiest.”
Mr. Hovhannisyan also stated that they had conducted internal quizzes and had found out that the Heritage Party would be at least in the second place in the parliament. Besides internal quizzes, they also have the “non-ordered” results of quizzes of other organizations too, “I know with my civil intuition and communication with the people which our real numbers 5 years ago were. The Heritage Party list is the central competitor in this election; it has huge energy and power. The Heritage Party will be a part of the future parliament and executive power. Therefore, questions that are asked with whom the Heritage Party intends to form a coalition are not casual.”
