Yerevan―The Heritage Party condemns the physical assault on independent MP candidate Meruzhan Mkhoyan that took place on Friday, April 6. Running in the single-mandate constituency No. 21 in the Armavir region—and opposed in the race by Republican-backed Aleksan Petrosian—Mkhoyan withdrew his candidacy as a direct result of the assault.
Heritage demands that the Central Electoral Commission and law enforcing bodies conduct a fair and thorough investigation of the case. Such violence brutally undermines the electoral process, and nothing like it must ever happen again.
