A festival of Azerbaijani movies would have taken place at 3 p.m. today at Journalists’ Club Asparez in Gyumri. However, before organizer Georgi Vanyan, the head of the Caucasian Center of Peacemaking Initiatives, reached Asparez, the intellectuals of Gyumri, representatives of different parties, yerkrapahs, town authorities had been waiting for him noisily. The latter both outside and inside Asparez beat Vanyan up, who managed slapped him on the face and demanded to answer for besmirching Armenian’s dignity.
In the end, Vanyan was taken out of sight, however, this didn’t calm residents of Gyumri either, he was called out again as if to organize a roundtable discussion, he was attacked again, called a traitor of the nation and kicked out.
Vanyan made a statement, saying, “Considering the security of the audience that has come from Yerevan, the movie will not be shown.”
