5 days have already passed since the beginning of the election campaign, but the United Armenians Party seems to continue keeping silent. www.aravot.am inquired from Arsen Avagyan, the press secretary of the party, what programs they had and how they would act during the election campaign. Mr. Avagyan informed that they had already opened 13 headquarters and had had a meeting with voters in Abovyan. A new headquarters will be opened in the community of Ajapnyak, if problems with premises are solved, they will open
another headquarters in the community of Malatia-Sebastia. We inquired whether problems with premises in that community were related to the personality of Samvel Alexanyan. He answered no.
In response to another question what had shown the meeting with voters in Abovyan, A. Avagyan said, “Everyone was interested, since many people thought that the party had just been established. Whereas it was established in 2000, and since the members are mainly intellectuals and are engaged in scientific work, they didn’t have time to often meet with the public.”
We inquired what the main reason, for which the voters should vote for them, was. The press secretary responded, “The party is not pro-government, it is centrist and pro-state.” In response to our observation that the Republican Party also stated that it was pro-state, A. Avagyan said, “The Republican Party is pro-government, since the life has shown that they have governed for many years and people are displeased with this party to a certain extent.” In response to an observation of www.aravot.am that the participation of not so well-known parties as the United Armenians Party in the election was encouraged by the ruling party, in order to steal votes from others by that, R. Avagyan said, “There can be no such thing. Our participation in the election is only for scientists’ participation in passing laws, in order that it may be done not at the amateur level, but at the professional level.”
