During a conversation with Aravot, Armen Martirosyan, a Heritage MP, nominated a candidate for MP in no. 6 electoral district didn’t deny that he had stated during his campaign that he was the opposition candidate. In response to our observation that the Armenian National Congress (ANC) members complained on social networks that he had ventured to say that he was the oppositionist, whereas there was Avet Poghosyan from the ANC there, Mr. Martirosyan said, “I am generally a bold guy, I have proved that by my life and I haven’t hidden at dangerous moments like some people and when the situation became clearer, then emerged sitting on shoulders as if I have come, here I am. I don’t have a problem with fear. Yes, I say that I am the representative of the opposition and today I want to thank my senior colleagues from the ANC – Myasnik Malkhasyan and Petros Makeyan – who, knowing that I would be nominated in the 6th electoral district, didn’t wish to impede my election struggle, for which I am grateful, since if they had been nominated, I would have had something to think of. However, putting an ANC candidate, whom even the ANC representatives don’t know, on the last day is, in my opinion, just for impeding my election campaign. Because in all electoral districts, where we knew in advance that the ANC had nominated a candidate, we didn’t nominate anyone. I said as early as a year ago that I would be nominated in the 6th electoral district and not noticing that fact… let our citizens make their own conclusions.”
Nonetheless, Armen Martirosyan wished the ANC representative good luck, “Good luck and bon voyage, I don’t see any problem, it is a political stage and everyone has the right to struggle, one just shouldn’t speak of joint struggle, opposition attitude etc. after that…”
Mr. Martirosyan also said that his supporters in the 6th electoral district had told him that during the ANC candidate’s election campaign, canvassers were engaged in “explanatory” work with residents, go from door to door and do “black PR” against the Heritage Party as if “the Heritage Party is corrupted, don’t vote for it…”
The Heritage MP also told that his friend and fellow party member Styopa Safaryan was going to be nominated in no. 2 electoral district, “however, Raffi Hovhannisyan said just one sentence, he said ‘Styopa, but I think Vladimir Karapetyan wants to be nominated there,’ and after that the decision was immediately changed and Styopa Safaryan was nominated in no. 1 electoral district. Not to mention Khachatur Sukiasyan, Sasun Mikayelyan, Manuel Gasparyan, all those candidates, about whom we knew in advance that they had been nominated.”
