April 23,2012 13:52

In one of the campaign advertisement videos of the Armenian Communist Party (ACP), ACP leader Ruben Tovmasyan states that all the people called the Soviet Union “our 5000-year-old priceless stone” in the Soviet times and they felt that the country was theirs, “since the authority belonged to the people.” Whereas many citizens struggled against the Soviet system in those years. Therefore, www.aravot.am asked Ruben Tovmasyan to comment on the mentioned controversy. The chief Communist said, “The country was the country of a working man, it was a country of the people, the proletariat accounted for 90% of the party. The country was a paradise, for example, they say ‘raykom’ (district committee), ‘raysovet’ (district council) and ‘ray’ means paradise in Russian. I don’t exaggerate, since the country was really a country of

farmer and laborer. There were kolkhoz members, laborers, pedagogues, sportsmen, members from all social layers in the Supreme Council of the time. Certainly, there were people struggling against the system.”

Another statement voiced in the Communist Party video refers to the fact that even the enemies of the Soviet Union talked about the Soviet Union with admiration and said that “if you want to see miracles, go to Soviet Armenia.” www.aravot.am asked R. Tovmasyan to put forward facts exactly which country had made such a statement. The ACP leader stated, “Many people from different countries used to come to Soviet Armenia and say that Armenia was open air museum. For example, opposite parties from the US and England used to tell us that it was really a country of miracles.” When we persisted that R. Tovmasyan made just one example, Mr. Tovmasyan mentioned Rockwell Kent.
