www.aravot.am applied to Stepan Safaryan, a representative of the Heritage Party and its parliamentary group leader, trying to clarify whether it was possible that the party would join the Rules Guaranteeing Civilized Participation in the Election prepared by the RPA executive body, which had been made public the previous day and was open not only for the forces participating in the election, but also for the social movements and NGOs related to the electoral process. “It is good that the ruling party attaches importance to civilized
election campaign, rhetoric and high political culture and attitude in terms of free and fair elections. It would be better, if we saw that they were the first implementers of that in the short run. It is more than important that the legality of elections is guaranteed by state bodies. Yesterday, ironically, an unpleasant fact was registered in the region of Syunik, in Kajaran, where the big billboard of the Heritage Party was deliberately torn apart. This is the region, where the ruling party has very strong positions represented by the governor who is included in the RPA list and by the RPA offices and activists. If they, along with the state bodies, reveal who carried out that disgusting action and punish him, I will be more than convinced that the government and the RPA not only really respect the document they have signed, but are also consistent in punishing such encroachments on the participants in the election.”
Spartak Seyranyan, a member of the ARF Supreme Body and the propaganda coordinator of the party, said during a conversation with www.aravot.am that he couldn’t say anything then, since that question hadn’t been discussed by the party yet. Seyranyan also stressed that the ARF couldn’t help but discuss such initiatives.
Let us add that RPA member Davit Harutyunyan took such an initiative a few weeks ago, but only the Rule of Law Party (RLP) responded to his initiative.
