Today Aram Sargsyan, the Democratic Party of Armenia (DPA) leader, complained to journalist in the village of Azatan, region of Shirak, that no political force engaged in a debate with him. “They refuse debates, why do they refuse, because they are afraid that we will put forward an analysis that will confirm that the present day so-called coalition parties had all possibilities to fulfill their promises, which they make now. Now they come and say,
I am surprised, I have started to doubt perhaps we are not the pro-socialist party, but they are. However, if one asks them tomorrow, they will say ‘no, no, we are liberal parties,’ if you are such parties, why do you repeat our words? They copy so well. I am surprised, they have adopted and repeat what we said 10 days ago,” complained Aram Sargsyan.
He stated that he was ready to invite to debate the Republican Party, as well as the Rule of Law Party (RLP) and the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) leaders, however, he assured at the same time that they would refuse. In response to a question of www.aravot.am whether their political experience didn’t suffice to accept the invitation, Mr. Sargsyan said, “Fear, because one can stand on the stage and tell prepared masses that ‘we have done so many things, we are going to deceive you again.’ On TV, when he has an opponent who will put forward facts, I think they will certainly not wish. In my opinion, there is one reason – fear – but in other cases they say ‘why should we come to debate with them,’ but why shouldn’t you, do you live on Olympus and we serve you, is that it? You are a political force and this is a political event, offer that opportunity to the people to choose, if your project is better, let them follow you, but don’t make these people come and vote for you,” Aram Sargsyan complained again.
According to him, Azatan is the only place he visited, where there was no atmosphere of fear, thanks to the village headman. According to the leader of the DPA, when people see him in other places they approach him and open their hearts to him, that “if they find out that we have come to your rally or to a meeting with you, we may have problems.”
