The Candidate for MP Has Made a Statement on an Electoral Violation

May 03,2012 20:39

Today Vahagn Martirosyan, a candidate for MP self-nominated in no. 29 electoral district for majoritarian representation, made a statement on a case of electoral violation.

The Statement is provided below,

“I want to make a statement on an incident that took place on May 2 in the village of Lernapat with one of my supporters. In particular, one of village headman Vano Yeghiazaryan’s relatives committed a violent action toward my proxy Gevorg Melkonyan. Regardless of what the reason for argument and fight was, it is natural that in this pre-election period some village headmen use their power to ensure the votes they have promised, because of which they try to spread an atmosphere of terror in their villages. In particular, this refers to both Lernapat and Katnajur. On April 30, the campaign meeting of another candidate, independent candidate, nonpartisan Armen Martirosyan, was also banned in the same manner. I think this is a serious violation of conducting a free, fair and transparent election provided for by the electoral legislation and I call on competent bodies to investigate my statements and punish the respective persons, according to the respective articles of the Electoral Code. In particular, the village headman’s supporters – according to my information, the village headman’s son – have stabbed, by the way, an oppositionist, in their perception an oppositionist, my supporter Norik Tamaryan.”

By the way, Vahagn Martirosyan is a member of the executive committee of the Pan-Armenian National Movement (PANM).

Let us remind that Vano Yeghiazaryan, the village headman of Lernapat, is famous for his “habit” to regularly sue mass media for slander and offence. Besides that, we are ready to hear the opinions of persons mentioned in the statement.
