Petros Ghazaryan, the author of Urvagits (outline) TV show, doesn’t want to politicize today’s decision of the National Commission on TV and Radio (NCTR) to impose one-million-AMD fine on Kentron TV Company. “We claim that we were not engaged in propaganda or anti-propaganda, there was live broadcasting, during which one made a political appeal. That day, we broadcasted live the work of the Central Election Commission (CEC), as most of TV Companies. If anyone made a statement that day, should we be fined? We don’t agree with that decision and will continue our journalistic work,” P. Ghazaryan said to www.aravot.am.
Today, the head of the NCTR said that they had started new administrative proceedings against Kentron and Yerkir Media TV Companies for violating the electoral legislation and covering unequally.
We inquired from Mr. Ghazaryan how they would respond to that move of the NCTR, “If they fine us twice, because we have covered unequally, our question is still pending whether TV Companies covered equally during the 2008 election or this election or whether it is unequal only in case of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) or the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF). Developments are expected, they may start second proceedings against us, after that it is obvious that the process of taking away the license is under way, it seems to me that the point of that is this, but Amalyan doesn’t know that yet. We don’t politicize this and don’t think that this is pressure on us… this decision, as well as that decision under way, doesn’t correspond to the law. We will continue working, as we have worked, we will not organize rallies, we will not demand toppling down ‘the criminal regime’ or Amalyan.”
We also inquired from our interlocutor whether he was going to respond to head of the NCTR Grigor Amalyan’s proposal to invite him to Kentron for a live show not on Facebook, but personally contacting, and put forward actual materials for the meeting. Mr. Ghazaryan said that an invitation on Facebook was invitation already.
