As we have already informed, Ashot Zakaryan, a former chief of the Gyumri military police, a former prisoner of conscience and an ANC coordinator, stated two hours ago that he leaves the ANC ranks.
During a conversation with journalists, he explained that the attempts of the ANC to cooperate with the PAP were unacceptable for him, since they paved the way for Robert Kocharyan’s return by that. “I cannot cooperate with political forces that are directly responsible for the situation created in the country and I am sorry, but for me, there is no difference between the Prosperous Armenia Party and the Republican Party. I always thought that Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan were similar people, therefore, I think that it is very unserious to think of cooperation,” said Mr. Zakaryan.
He, not ruling out his political activities, informed that he would be engaged in social activities at the moment, the Armenian Center for Protection of Democracy NGO had been established, he was one of the founding members of it and would support regional security and our country’s integration into the EU. Journalists inquired whether Ashot Zakaryan had checked his resignation with his party leader Aram Sargsyan. “I haven’t checked it with anyone and generally I never check my actions with anyone. If the Republic Party announces its withdrawal from the ANC in the near future, at which Mr. Sargsyan has hinted, it will mean that we will still continue our path in politics. If he doesn’t announce, then we will have different approaches in politics, anyway. I will not necessarily leave the party ranks, but I will not be actively involved.”

He also informed that people who had become members of the ANC with him would leave with him.
Ashot Zakaryan said that he expected criticism, moreover, also unhealthy one. At the same time, he communicated his expectations from the ANC leadership to do so that the mass media under the supervision of that force didn’t cross the limits of political correctness and ethics.
