“The Armenian National Congress (ANC) Should Have Refused Personal Benefits and Rejected the Offices” (Video)

May 16,2012 21:33

Members of the ANC advised the Heritage Party at the time to reject offices, in order not to legitimize the rule of bandits. www.aravot.am inquired from Aram Karapetyan, the New Times Party (NTP) leader, when the ANC members had been right, whether they had given bad advice at the time or whether it was wrong that the Congress was going to assume the offices. Mr. Karapetyan responded, “It is one of the paradoxes of our country. They give advice as they deem comfortable. From the perspective of political science, the right thing would have been to reject the offices. In the situation of Armenia, to prepare the people psychologically to understand that everything was done with gross violations and going to that parliament is meaningless from my perspective, from the perspective of political science the right thing was to reject the offices. They gave good advice to the Heritage Party at the time.”

Aram Karapetyan is convinced that those 7 people will not be able to change anything in the parliament, anyway, so, it will not be efficient, “At least, there would have been an explanation for the national movement that “these are your votes, but since your votes have not been counted correctly, we cannot assume these offices, because we have to

necessarily make changes. They should have turned ‘Fight, fight to the finish’ into a serious theme and said that ‘we are even ready to reject offices that bring us certain personal benefits, we reject them, because not everybody’s vote has been counted in Armenia. Perhaps, yours have been counted, but the votes of the rest, 90%, have not.’ How can one go to the parliament, i.e. ignore the others’ votes?” Aram Karapetyan assured that if the ANC had asked them they would have shown the whole political platform, moreover, for free.
