“The situation commands it,” Artak Kirakosyan, the head of the Civil Society Institute NGO council, said in response to a question of www.aravot.am whether the silence
we witnessed in the post-election period wasn’t sort of strange and went into detail, “For example, the explosion of the DIY Club is a clear post-election development. I.e. you see that some forces look for enemies within the society. Sharmazanov’s statement absolutely imbalanced and supporting a crime testifies to the fact that they also understand that something went wrong.” Responding to our another question whether there would be a coalition or not, A. Kirakosyan said, “The artificial coalition that will be formed now, perhaps, to ensure the president’s re-election raises strong doubts how come that they won such a number. Unfortunately, there is no normal political stage these days. Certainly, I would like, as a citizen, the coalition not to be formed, but I think it will be formed.”
As to the silence of the opposition A. Kirakosyan said the following, “If they had won 30%, they would have made more fuss about violations. Their defeat was shocking for them too, although it was expectable, but all the same, there is such mentality in conflict situations. It is the logic of the besieged. They are convinced that everyone is for them. They stick to the same logic, how can one go and vote for the Prosperous Armenia Party or the Republican Party? They were convinced that they would vote for the Armenian National Congress (ANC). Disappointment.”

Talking about election violations, Mr. Kirakosyan said that parties didn’t alert very often. And he explains passiveness by the fact that political forces conserve their strength for the presidential election.
A. Kirakosyan stated that he had “lots of papers, all about violations,” he had “nothing positive to say,” however he stated at the same time that they had received less alerts this time than during the previous election.
