Is There No Contradiction Between the Careful Assessments of Hrant Bagratyan and the high assessments of Levon Zurabyan?

May 25,2012 17:36

www.aravot.am tried to find out from Hrant Bagratyan, the Freedom Party leader and a member of the Armenian National Congress (ANC), whether he didn’t notice any contradiction between his comments and Levon Zurabyan’s comments on the statement of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) made yesterday on not forming a coalition.

Let us mention that Levon Zurabyan, the ANC coordinator, made a comment for a few mass media and stated, “The decision of the Prosperous Armenia Party not to join the ruling coalition testifies to the weakening of Serzh Sargsyan’s positions. The decision of the Prosperous Armenia Party showed that the monolith of the government that cracked before the election collapses.” There is a particularly interesting part, in which Levon Zurabyan underlines, “The strategy of the Armenian National Congress adopted as early as in October 2011 aiming at weakening the political monopoly of Serzh Sargsyan’s Republican Party, including the establishment of the joint staff ensuring the lawfulness of the election were accurately calculated moves, which contribute to the political isolation of the regime.”

And Hrant Bagratyan said, “Firstly, one should understand that we just deal with a statement here and one shouldn’t rule out that the situation may change and tomorrow there may be another statement. The PAP has not been given what it wanted. Right now, if the PAP is given more, i.e. the office of the Prime Minister, they will move to the other camp.”

We inquired whether he had noticed a contradiction. Mr. Bagratyan responded, “I don’t seek for contradictions to notice them.” We asked for clarification whether that comment was his own opinion or it had been checked with the ANC, “If I say, I express my personal opinion, if I say on behalf of the ANC, I say on behalf of the ANC.”

In response to our observation that this opinion differed from the one of the ANC, Mr. Bagratyan assured that it just seemed to us, “He said so, now what, do those two things contradict? Where do they contradict?” In response to our observation that the ANC celebrated, so to say, its victory concerning the calculated moves, whereas he still doubted, “I don’t see any contradiction. If say to you that you are very beautiful, someone else says that you are not more beautiful than Cleopatra, do these two contradict each other? I said that they didn’t form, because they didn’t get what they wanted, Zurabyan says that we calculated that, he says it, so what? I don’t see any contradiction.”
