It Will Start From September

May 26,2012 12:34

Most probably, nothing essential will happen anymore within the upcoming 3 months in terms of internal political developments. However, certainly, the presidential election campaign will actually start from September and, accordingly, the “repertoire” of criticism that was already voiced before the parliamentary election with disastrous predictions – if this situation continues, Armenia will be ruined, will disappear, will be eliminated from the face of the earth etc. – will be voiced in this or that “instrumentation,” fundamentalist or constructive. I am not sure whether that kind of propaganda contributes to the consolidation of the oppositional electorate, “revolutionizing” the society. Those who believe that imminent apocalypse not always decide to take to the streets and chant opposition slogans. The mood of the majority is quite the opposite – if it really collapses, better still, I will leave here. By the way, according to the same logic, when one says too often that there is an atmosphere of fear in Armenia, that everyone is terrified and horrified, people start to think that perhaps there really are so many things to fear.

It seems to me that the opposition propaganda, naturally being against the government and its policy, shouldn’t use the mentality features of a part of our people, a component of which is “it is bad here, let me go somewhere else” plan. No one can convince me that thousands of people didn’t dream of America with full supermarkets and a few cars in the garage in the comparably more prosperous Soviet period – the borders were just closed at that time and fleeing the country was harder. Those who say that the sentiments of packing things arose in the independent Armenia are not completely honest.

I hear from both intellectuals and ordinary people at every turn now too that they will leave the country in any way. Whom do they blackmail, whom do they threaten? The government? But it seems not to give a damn about that. There is just a tendency in our country – not to try to create something, even imperfect and small, as our country, here, under these hard conditions, but to go to others’ “ready” country and enjoy more comfortable conditions created by others. Let’s honestly admit that to ourselves just once, otherwise, one can always complain about the life, the system and the government.

Fortunately, Armenians, citizens who will never, under any circumstances, leave Armenia also live here. It doesn’t matter whether they will or will not have a job. It doesn’t matter whether that job will be good or not. It doesn’t matter whether they will be hungry or full. It doesn’t matter whether their children will or will not have a prospect

here. They will not leave, even if Robert Kocharyan becomes the president again. Even if Grigor Amalyan or Garegin B becomes the president.
