“Who Constitutes the Majority Was the One Engaged in Election Bribery,” the Rule of Law Party (RLP) Member Says About Election Bribery

May 28,2012 12:15

“Election bribe kept people away from ideas,” RLP MP Ishkhan Khachatryan stated at the Post Scriptum club today about the fact that not all members of the RLP had voted for them.

In response to a question whether he would state explicitly who had handed out election bribe, because he was mentioned as the one who had been engaged in election bribery, Mr. Khachatryan said that we, journalists, knew that better than him, “I mean those political forces that won the most votes. You can make your own conclusions. I can only say that when our votes decreased, it was only because of election bribery.” www.aravot.am inquired whether he basically blamed his coalition partner for handing out election bribe and took away the votes of the people adhering to the RLP ideas, he responded, “I don’t blame, you know who handed out. Who constitutes the majority was the one engaged in election bribery. The election was a step forward, no violation was recorded in the polling stations, a transparent election was held in the polling stations. And all that happened outside the polling stations.” We tried to clarify once again whether he meant the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), he smiled, “I don’t want to name them. You know.”

Mr. Khachatryan also mentioned that the news of his candidacy withdrawal was inaccurate.

Few mass media attended the press conference. A few days ago, the results of a research were made public, according to which there had been mass media in the pre-election and post-election periods that hadn’t covered the RLP at all. Therefore, in response to a question of www.aravot.am how he would comment on that indifference toward the RLP, why the interest had died away, besides that, add to that, the photo of the RLP’s gravestone with years 1998 and 2008 as dates of birth and death was posted on Facebook. Ishkhan Khachatryan responded, “It is black propaganda, which I criticize. The RLP was, is and will be, we have the best ideas and projects. We have to justify and realize the hopes that citizens pin on us.”

Talking about the fact that the PAP would not form the coalition, he stated, “We have had colleagues whom we respect for 5 years, the RLP is not happy. The RLP will be happy, if the Armenian nation lives respectably, the PAP has to be either in the coalition or in the opposition camp. If they want to be an opposition institution, we treat our colleagues’ decision respectfully.”
