June 04,2012 12:20

Aravot has informed that No. 5 School of Ijevan will be named after Mikayel Martirosyan, the grandfather of famous humorist Garik Martirosyan and Levon Martirosyan, a member of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) parliamentary group. We have already presented other details about Mikayel Martirosyan and now we just quote the data from that publication.

So, Mikayel Arkadi Martirosyan was a Teacher Emeritus of Armenia who was born more than 100 years ago. In 1927, he left his native village of Achajur for Baku. Graduating with honors from the university, he taught in Karabakh for a few years, after which he left for Moscow and was admitted to the Liebknecht State Pedagogical Institute. 7 years after, he started to teach mathematics in the village of Shahnazar (today’s Metsamor), Tashir. In 1941, he exchanged his teacher’s uniform for a soldier’s blouse and was decorated with the Medals for Courage and for the Defense of the Caucasus.

Well, countless children found their place in life thanks to him. He taught at school for many years, at first he was the head of the teaching department at the middle school of Uzuntal (today’s Aygehovit), then he was the principle of the Russian school in Ijevan. In 1960, Mikayel Martirosyan was bestowed the title of Teacher Emeritus of Armenia and he really deserved that award. They say his mathematics classes were like dramatized performances. He recited the subject like a poem – with passion, emphases – in order that it reaches not only the brain, but also the heart. Well, during breaks he taught how to make decisions and not to deviate from the path. He brought up his sons and grandsons in that manner.

“The grandfather could answer all our questions, even the most difficult ones. We talked about the galaxy, life on the Earth, good and evil… And now becoming a mature personality, I haven’t found logical and grounded answers to those questions of mine,” says Garik Martirosyan, his grandson. “In order to teach my brother and me how to think and present the reality, the grandfather would tell us to describe the natural phenomena in our words. Then he would carefully read what we had written, would find out the details, enjoy every accurate word and praise us as if lending wings.”
