The Daughter-in-Law Abused by Her Crazy Mother-in-Law, Seeing the Mother-in-Law in the Courtroom, Felt Bad

June 14,2012 20:50

Today the court session on the case of Mariam Vardanyan who had been abused by her mother-in-law vs. Haykanush Mikayelyan who had “picked her with a fork, burned her with an iron, scorched her breasts and viscera” was held in the trial court of Ararat and Vayots Dzor.

The Ziroyan family, which Mariam entered as a daughter-in-law, staged a show with Mariam’s photos before the court claiming that Mariam’s parents had not told them before wedding their daughter that Mariam was allergic. During a conversation with www.aravot.am, Mariam told, “I was inside, I didn’t see the posters, my relatives were there

and they told that they had said that I broke out in a rash, it smelled and stuff like that.” As for what it had to do with the case, with beating, Mariam said, “I don’t know, they could put forward only one thing, one explanation, because there is nothing else against me. One doesn’t beat a sick person up, on the contrary, they should have treated me better. I don’t pay attention to what they say, they have done to me whatever they could already.” The court session was behind closed doors. Haykanush entered the courtroom, according to Mariam, “in good shape” as if nothing had happened. Instead, seeing her and living over what had happened to her, Mariam felt bad in the courtroom and the judge announced a 10-minute break in order that Mariam might come to herself and be stronger.

Mariam saw her former mother-in-law, Haykanush, approach prosecutor Arsenyan with a tight fist in the courtroom, “I don’t know what she wanted to give, since I didn’t see what was in her fist, the bailiff accompanying her grabbed her by the arm and said that she should approach later.”

During a conversation with us, Mariam Gevorgyan’s counselor Nona Galstyan informed that they had challenged the prosecutor in that regard, but it was rejected. The next court session was set for June 28.
