The Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Will Vote Against the Cabinet’s Program

June 19,2012 16:05

At the parliamentary group meeting of the Prosperous Armenia Party that has just finished, the parliamentary group of the party decided that it would vote against the program submitted by the Cabinet. Let us remind that the program will be put forward for consideration by the parliament during an extraordinary meeting tomorrow. During a conversation with www.aravot.am, Tigran Urikhanyan, the spokesman of the party’s parliamentary group, said that although the meeting was to be held in rounds, the PAP had already decided that they would vote against. In response to a question what was the reason for that decision, which articles, in particular, members of the PAP were not satisfied with, our interlocutor said, “I myself as a member of the National Assembly raised one issue – in the part of risks of the program, i.e. in the part regarding the reservations of implementation, for example, there are a few points, including a change, an increase in exchange rate of the dollar, a decrease in prices of nonferrous metals, fluctuation of oil prices, mentioned. I want to surely state one thing – by the way, experts also share my opinion – the exchange rate of dollar will undoubtedly change and analyses show that it will change in favor of dollar. It means that – let me define it more comprehensibly – the Cabinet wrote in black and white that this program would not be implemented, because the risks part mentions the points, which will surely be the case in the future. Every rational analysis will show that. And if it is the case, it is pointless to discuss whether that program is good or bad, since the Cabinet already has a reservation – it is very probable that we will not implement it.”

The PAP will raise many issues regarding the fields of education, energy security, foreign relations and youth policy, which will be put forward during the upcoming discussions. In response to a question of www.aravot.am, Tigran Urikhanyan said that they would not sit idly by, they will put forward alternative proposals in regard to all contentious points. By the way, besides the “unrealism” of the Cabinet, the PAP doesn’t trust the Cabinet that is going to implement that.

We also inquired whether the PAP was going to fix its place on the political stage by making a statement tomorrow. “The PAP has already fixed its place on the political stage and fixes it by its everyday work. We don’t seek after futurism, we will not attach importance to the form instead of the content, with all our steps and actions, we will rely on the assessment made by the people, the society of what place the PAP has taken on the political stage. We are a clear alternative,” Urikhanyan said. In response to an observation that the procedural rules of the National Assembly provided for clarifying a party’s field of activities with a statement, the PAP press secretary said that there was no such imperative demand in the law, “It is just groundless information spread in the press, which has circulated like the game of telephone. There is no such imperative demand in the law.”
